First off is the horrible build quality, the dual bass ports (plastic rings) were falling out of the enclosure when I first opened the box (no shipping damage). One good thing that I can say about these speakers is that the four surround speakers (excluding the center channel) sound quite well and that cyber acoustic speakers are known for their longevity, even with every day use (my sisters old set is 4 years old and still works like new).
They can also just be used as 2.1 speakers if you just connect the green lead cable to an audio source. The bottom line is that these speakers don't have the most bass or the best sound, but they are adequate for most college students, just keep in mind that you will need a sound card in order to experience 4.1 or 5.1 surround sound.
For the price, there are simply better choices out there (logitech x530.). Finishing up is the length of the rear and center speaker cords, the external power brick and the fact that the center channel does not get loud enough(I have adjusted my sound card every possible way).
I hope this helps your decision. I am usually very pleased with cyber acoustic speakers, but these just don't seem like the companies best effort.
The sub also lacks a properly tuned enclosure, just has two holes drilled in a cube box (this results in punchy bass only and no boomy bass that you find in most rap and rock music.
But what usually happens is those expensive speakers wind up sounding like very clear fingernails on a chalkboard. In low cost electronics, the sound is full of "artifacts" that are unpleasant to listen to. These speakers are probably the best buy for the money on the market today. Trying to make cheap electronics sound extremely clear is a mistake, especially given the number of hours I tend to spend in front of my computer with the speakers pumping out music. The paper drivers this company uses does a wonderful job of replacing those sonic artifacts with a simple, organic sound that is easy to listen to. They don't have "technically" the best sound, but my ears always seem to gravitate to the type of sound these speakers have because it is inherently non-fatiguing. You can spend a bundle on speakers looking for the best sound, and I have.
